The bond between one cat and a senior dog sibling shows that pet siblings can form surprisingly strong relationships. In a recent TikTok video, their pet parent shared a curious interaction between the two while they were standing near a staircase. Once they figured out what was going on, their parent couldn't have been happier that they cared so much about each other.

"I couldn't figure out why my cat kept meowing while my 14-year-old dog waited at the top of the stairs…" @whiskeytoller explained in the video text, but the real reason soon became clear. Take a peek at the video, and try not to get too choked up by how sweet this is!

"No best friend left behind ," @whiskeytoller captioned the post, and that's right! In the clip, the dog and cat wait at the top of the stairs, with the kitty meowing at the older dog. Why? Well, this feline appears to be looking out for their aging sibling.

As @whiskeytoller told us in the video text, "But then I realized… He was encouraging him… And making sure he wasn't trying something hard all alone… They were waiting for each other." What a kind gesture from this kitty!

People in the comments thought so, too! One person expressed, "Never underestimate the love and bond animals have for each other."

Another TikTok user wrote, "Best Friends. Your cat has a special purpose to care for [their] aging friend. Animals understand when another one needs a special friend, personally had it happen in my home. It's amazing to see."

How Cats and Dogs 'Talk' to Each Other

From watching the video, it seems this duo is in sync with what each other needs. That may be because cats and dogs can communicate in their own ways. According to Rover, cats and dogs use vocalizations, such as meowing and barking, and body language to interpret each other's behavior.

There are some clear examples of this in the clip. For starters, this cat is softly meowing at the dog. If this kitty were hissing, that could be taken as a sign of aggression. Along with those gentle meows, this kitty's body language is also more relaxed. This cat even brushes against her dog sibling before going down the stairs. Then, when at the bottom, this cat waits patiently for the dog to come down. This kitty looks to be making sure their best dog bestie is alright. These two are so lucky to have each other as pet siblings!
