In this heartwarming viral dog video, the pup is so overwhelmed with excitement that her mom can literally hear her from down the street.
The emotional dog reunion quickly turns hilarious thanks to the Dachshund's overwhelmingly loving and enthusiastic response.

This Dachshund Couldn't Contain Her Excitement
It's so sweet to see these two ladies crying tears of happiness!
Fortunately, only one peed on the other (we won't blame Lady for that, though, as sometimes bodily functions just can't be controlled when we're overwhelmed with emotion!).
So why is Lady so excited that she can barely contain herself?
According to Alison Gerken, a board-certified veterinary behaviorist at the SPCA in San Francisco, California, many factors contribute to a dog's excited state, including relationship development and neurobiology.
One of those neurobiological factors is oxytocin, a hormone and neuropeptide that has a lot to do with those strong feelings of connection and trust between a dog and their pet parent.
Now the pup doesn't know that a week has passed since she has seen her mom, because they don't understand the concept of time the way we do. But dogs do know their routines, and they know when something is different.
They also know they love their parents! Research has shown that the longer a dog's parent is away, the more enthusiastic the pooch's response will be.

Lady the Dachshund Recently Celebrated Her Gotcha Day
Lady and her mom, influencer Abby Baffoe, are usually inseparable, so this must have been a tough week for this little pup, even though she was staying with her mom's loving family.
