Iconic '80s Powerhouse Duo Road Warriors (Legion of Destruction) Named Greatest WWE Tag Team of All Time
When you talk about powerhouse tag teams, The New Day, The Dudleyz, and The Hardys all come to mind ... and then there are the Road Warriors. According to a ranking from WWE Champions, the duo known as Hawk and Animal has officially taken the top spot as the greatest of all time.
Whether you knew them as the Road Warriors in the AWA and NWA or as the Legion of Doom (LOD) in the WWE, their impact was the same: pure, unadulterated carnage. They created the blueprint for every monster duo that followed.
The Standard for Intimidation
The ranking focused on more than just popularity, using a weighted system that looked at championship dominance, innovation, and cultural impact across eras. Even though they only held the WWF Tag Team Titles once, their "GOD-tier" status in Japan and multiple reigns in the NWA and AWA made them the undisputed choice for No. 1.
The publication noted that while modern tag teams focus on high-flying spots, the Legion of Doom won on pure presence. From the moment their music hit and they marched to the ring in those iconic spiked shoulder pads, the match was basically over.
The Doomsday Device
What truly separates the Road Warriors from teams like the Usos or the New Day is their terrifying efficiency. They were ticket-sellers who rarely needed ten minutes to get the job done. Their signature move - the Doomsday Device - remains the most visually devastating tag team finisher in history, involving Animal hoisting an opponent up while Hawk delivered a flying clothesline from the top rope.
"No team was more feared, more dominant, or more influential," the ranking states, pointing out that their unmistakable aura inspired everyone from Demolition to modern acts like The Authors of Pain.
