Cone Health enters Iredell County market with clinic for Mooresville town employees
Cone Health announced Thursday it is entering the Iredell County healthcare marketplace with plans to open a clinic in Mooresville.
The Greensboro not-for-profit system said the Employee Care Center will serve Mooresville town employees, retirees and their family members.
The clinic will be located at 435 E. Statesville Ave. and operate on a weekday schedule. It will provide primary care, preventative care and work-related care, such as drug tests and screenings.
The clinic is part of Cone's Employer Health & Wellness Solutions unit that "puts an emphasis on value-based care."
That includes preventative care through screenings, as well as offering classes and events that focus on a range of topics, from healthy eating to exercise to the management of chronic conditions, such as diabetes.
"Like the rest of us, governments and businesses are concerned about the high cost of health care," Dr. Angela Bacigalupo, supervising physician for the Cone Employer Health & Wellness Solutions unit, said in the news release.
"Prevention works but only if it is convenient and affordable."
Tracey Jerome, town manager of Mooresville, said the Cone clinic "will support our goal of retaining current employees and attracting new, talented candidates."
"We are confident that this proactive approach to long-term health and well-being will be a real benefit for our team and for our community."
Cone enters a crowded Iredell healthcare marketplace that is in transition.
In April 2025, Duke Health paid $284 million to acquire the 132-bed Lake Norman Regional Medical Center and related businesses.
Duke said the Mooresville hospital "represents a significant expansion of Duke Health clinical services outside the greater Triangle area."
The Lake Norman hospital offers 24-hour emergency care, labor and delivery services, cardiology, surgical and orthopedic care and outpatient imaging center.
The Duke Health acquisition comes after Novant Health Inc. ended in June its attempt to purchase the hospital and Davis Regional Psychiatric Hospital of Statesville for a combined $320 million.
Novant cited "continued roadblocks" from the Federal Trade Commission, particularly federal court challenges, as major factors in its decision.
A three-judge panel of the federal Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals voted 2-1 in June 2024 to implement the FTC's preliminary injunction request on the potential Novant purchase.
Meanwhile, Atrium Health operates a Lake Norman-branded hospital in Cornelius that debuted in 2025 with 53 beds.
