Senior dogs are so sweet, and getting to be with them in their twilight years is a truly special experience.

Jazz (@jazzincharmcity on TikTok) is a Baltimore social media specialist who rescued a senior German Shepherd, Vader. According to a video shared to TikTok, Vader had a cat in his former home, and he still has a big space in his heart for feline friends. Whenever Jazz and Vader stop by their local Ace Hardware, Vader is extremely eager to say hello to the resident shop cat.

Vader is extremely polite in the video, despite clearly wanting to play with the shop cat. The pair sweetly follow each other around the store, completely content with being in each other's company. Commenters on social media were enamored with the interaction, almost as much as Vader was with the Ace cat.

"Awwww that is absolutely precious, he needs a cat buddy."

"The kitty likes him! He is a very respectful gentleman."

"Someone tag me when they have a new cat."

How Dogs and Cats Form Bonds

The stereotypes are not always true. Despite having very different social styles (dogs are more expressive and physical, cats are more subtle and particular) dogs and cats can absolutely form bonds and become friends. The biggest keys to dogs and cats getting along are mutual respect, feeling secure, and time.

When trying to help cats and dogs get to know each other, it's important to introduce them in a neutral location and pay attention to the animal's body language. Scent sharing (giving them something that smells like the other) can also help them feel more familiar with each other. Sharing routines is also a great way to familiarize your furry friends, like having meals at the same time, or being around their humans in the same place, at the same time.

While Jazz hasn't confirmed yet whether or not she'll be finding a feline companion for Vader, her video is an adorable reminder that friendship can be found in even those most unlikely of places. Sometimes even at your local hardware store.
