Is Starbucks Open or Closed on Memorial Day?

A record 45 million Americans are expected to travel at least 50 miles from home for Memorial Day between Thursday, May 21 and Monday, May 25.

This year's domestic travel forecast is slightly higher than last year and sets a new Memorial Day weekend record with 39.1 million people traveling by car and 3.66 million expected to fly to their destinations. Those figures set a new record despite high gas prices reaching unfortunate recent records across the nation.

"Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer, and for most Americans, it's a three-day weekend," Stacey Barber, Vice President of AAA Travel said. "Travel demand remains strong, and despite higher fuel prices, many people are prioritizing leisure travel during holiday breaks."

Is Starbucks Open on Memorial Day?

Starbucks observes the following holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

While the coffee chain observes Memorial Day, those in need of their caffeine kick will be glad to know Starbucks remains open.

When is Memorial Day Celebrated and Why?

Memorial Day in 2026 is May 25 and coincides with the last Monday in May.

"It honors fallen service members of the U.S. military," the Wounded Warrior Project said about Memorial Day. "Americans began to recognize Memorial Day in 1868, and the country established it as a federal holiday in 1971. Originally known as ‘Decoration Day,' the holiday started with communities coming together to decorate the graves of those who died during service."
