If you walked by an alley and saw a desk that was falling apart, would you try to save it?

For creator Noah (@newlifebynoah), the answer is "yes." In fact, he recently felt compelled to save one desk he came across because it looked like "someone's abandoned restoration job," due to sanded sections and bits of wood filler.

So, he set out to finish their job - by turning the abandoned desk into two nightstands. Keep reading for a look into his day of work on this project.

This Furniture Flipper Turned an Abandoned Desk Into Two Nighstands

Noah came across the abandoned desk in an alley at 9:11 a.m., and by the end of the day (he included timestamps throughout his TikTok video), he had given it a complete transformation.

The dilapidated desk featured a symmetrical design with a set of drawers on each end. So, once Noah got the desk home, he wasted no time. Using an electric circular saw, Noah sliced the desk in half to turn it into two nightstands. As he explained, in his experience, nightstands can be sold online for a lot more than desks.

Next, Noah removed all the drawers from the desk and then knocked off its wobbly legs. Then, he used his saw to cut off the rest of the desktop, and filled in various spots with some wood filler. Once the filler dried, Noah used an electric sander to sand down the wood all over both nightstands.

After cleaning off all the sawdust, Noah he applied a pre-stain conditioner followed by a dark walnut stain - but then, there was a slight problem.

The Sanding and Wood Stain Wasn't Enough to Cover the Wood Filler

Unfortunately, once Noah's wood stain dried, the areas that had wood filler hadn't blended in with the wood grain. Noah tried filling in the spots with a wood marker, but unfortunately, this just made it look even worse.

So, Noah decided to paint over the sides of each nightstand with a dark gray paint, which completely covered the flaws and gave the night tables a modern aesthetic. And finally, he sprayed a polyurethane spray all over the pieces. That final clip had a timestamp of 5:09 p.m., meaning Noah completed the project in just under eight hours.

Noah loved how the project turned out, and he said he planned to list the pair of nightstands for $250. He spent around $30 on materials, meaning his profit will be $220.
