Man Tries Moving Baby Deer From the Middle of the Road, but One Fawn Falls in Love With Him Instead
Baby deer always make for an adorable wildlife encounter, but spotting baby deer in the road is just as scary as it is sweet. Even the most mindful drivers can be caught off guard by an animal darting across the street, but one driver spotted a family of deer with plenty of time to spare. When the newborn fawns tried to 'hide' in the middle of the road instead of following their moms into the woods, though, he knew he had to step in to help.
@Floatingtheozarks, who usually posts about fishing and boating in the mountains, gently attempted to guide the fawns to safety on the side of the road. However, things didn't go quite to plan when one of the tiny baby deer fell in love with its rescuer instead.
@floatingtheozarks As I was driving to my house two does crossed the road along with these two fawns. The does ran off the road and into the bush, but these fawns went into their natural hiding position. Unfortunately, it was in the middle of the road, so I had to try to move them, so I didn't run one over. You can hear the mother call in the background. These are definitely recent newborns. You never know what he'll come across on country roads in the Ozarks. #floatingtheozarks

This is the cutest plot twist ever! The newborn fawns looked like pancakes in the middle of the road, the position they assume when trying to hide. If only the little ones knew they needed grass or plants to keep them hidden!
"Our eyes need a check-up," @directv commented. "We thought those were large toads." LOL! The sweet deer did a great job at camouflaging themselves, just like their mamas told them to do.

Luckily, there was no predator in pursuit of the scared babies-just a well-meaning man. One fawn quickly clambered off in the same direction as the does, but the other became interested in @floatingtheozarks instead. Talk about love at first sight!
Commenter @xo.just_peachy admitted, "I'd be coming home with two new babies." It must be so hard to resist petting them and falling in love, but helping them move out of the path of danger is the right thing to do when Mama isn't far away. Besides, deer are wild animals-not pets.
What to Do If You See a Fawn Without Its Mom
In this case, the selfless driver knew the fawns were not orphaned or injured, but not all encounters with baby deer are so straightforward. What should you do if you see a fawn without its mom?

Most of the time, nothing! Mama deer often leave their fawns 'hidden' somewhere safe while they go off in search of food. They'll return a few hours later, ready to care for their babies, so please don't move them!
If a fawn is obviously injured, crying continuously for hours, or showing signs of dehydration, such as curling the tips of the ears, it may need immediate help. If this is the case, call a local wildlife rescue or rehabilitation team for the best instructions. With a little empathy and the right timing, anyone can be a hero to wildlife like the driver in this video.
