Golden Retriever's Human Just Realized She's Actually His Emotional Support Animal

Wally the golden retriever doesn't have an emotional support animal. Wally IS someone's emotional support animal. His mama just figured this out.

The TikTok from @wally.meets.world is a day in the life video of Wally with a caption that sets the tone perfectly: "We may have unlocked a new fear today "

The day started off with a bang. Wally woke up already about to throw up. Fortunately, he didn't throw up. However, it didn't matter. The morning was already ruined and he refused to get out of bed until his human reminded him that his Auntie Hannah had slept over. He turned his frown upside down immediately.

Things got even more complicated in the car. Wally has one signature move: side-to-side window sniffing, switching windows every five seconds. But with Auntie Hannah in the car, he could only pick one window. One single window. He wasn't happy about it. She bought him a pup cup to make up for the inconvenience.

On the outing, Wally discovered there were people at the coffee cart who required his immediate physical attention. He had to be airlifted to reach them. Then came the stupendous sprinklers. He was having fun right up until the moment his ears got wet. A brand new fear was unlocked that day. In the end, it was every dog for himself. Wally shoved Auntie Hannah out of the way to claim the air conditioner on the drive home.

Once back, his human told him he could lay down wherever he wanted. He found this to be deeply unhelpful. The burden of choice was too much for him.

The comments arrived with the full support Wally deserved:

"Wally's life is so hard"

"His resilience is amazing"

"You're his emotional pet"

"He feels slighted when you told him he can lay down anywhereHow dare you give him the burden of choice"

"Auntie Hannie couldn't have sat in the trunk? Justice for Wally really "

"If reincarnation is real I want to come back as a spoiled dog"

"You're his emotional pet" is the comment that says everything. And there is real science behind why.

Why Some Dogs Are Just More Emotionally Sensitive Than Others

According to Topaz Vet Clinic, dogs process human emotions in ways that go much deeper than most people expect. Their innate ability to read humans developed over thousands of years. Dogs that could better interpret the emotional states of humans were more likely to survive and bond with people. That history is part of who they are today.

Dogs pick up on three main signals: facial expressions, tone of voice and body language. They can tell the difference between happy and angry faces even on complete strangers. When their humans show stress, their own cortisol levels rise to match. As noted, "your dog may react before you consciously recognize your own stress."

Golden retrievers fall into the category of breeds developed for close human cooperation. These companion breeds are way more likely to pick up on emotional cues than other dogs. Wally is not being dramatic. He's doing exactly what he's meant to do.

The sprinklers felt genuinely like a betrayal and the window situation was an absolute injustice.

His human is his emotional support human. She should feel privileged.

His resilience truly is amazing.
