TravelHost's Come Cruise With Me Editor in Chief Daniel Kline and his travel agent partner, Postcard Travel Planning's Dennis Post, recently clarified the current requirements for notifying banks about cruise travel and what to watch for while you're away in the video below.

Travel notifications used to be required, but the rules have changed.

Transcript:

Dan Kline: Hey there, cruisers. Dan and Dennis, your travel hosts. We're answering your questions from Cozumel. One of the big ones we get asked is, "Do I need to tell my bank that I'm traveling in a foreign country?"

That used to be a thing, and then for a while in the apps, you could tell your bank, hey, like, I'm going to be here, I'm going to be there, but Dennis, I'm about to get on a cruise.

Do you tell your clients to let their bank know that they're traveling now?

Dennis Post: No. They don't have to do that anymore. If you never travel, it might be a good idea because they'll flag your card. But you can make a phone call from here. But we don't anymore.

Kline: Most banks don't even have a mechanism for this anymore. But what might happen is if your card is, you know, maybe one day you're in Bermuda, the next day you're in Aruba, you might get that text message from them.

"Was this you?" And you have to answer those questions correctly or your card will get shut off. So you want to be a little bit aware when you're traveling of any communications you get.

But no, you do not need to tell your bank when you are traveling. I am Dan, he is Dennis. Come cruise with us soon.
