Seven Triangle companies receive NC innovation grants
Seven Triangle companies have received innovation grants from the One North Carolina Small Business Fund, Gov. Pat McCrory’s office announced Tuesday.
A total of 11 North Carolina companies received $544,947 from the fund, which aims to help companies bring their products to the marketplace.
To be eligible to receive the grants, companies must be awarded either a federal Small Business Innovation Research award or a federal Small Business Technology Transfer award. The state matches up to half the federal money, with each company eligible to receive a maximum of $50,000 per grant.
Among the Triangle companies receiving grants:
▪ Affinergy of Durham received $50,000 for its test measuring the hormone hepcidin that is responsible for regulating iron concentration in blood.
▪ Camras Vision of Durham received $50,000 to develop its adjustable pressure control device that is inserted into the eye to reduce harmful eye pressure of glaucoma patients.
▪ Edison Agrosciences of Durham received $45,000 to develop a new DNA transfer method.
▪ TriboFilm Research of Raleigh received $50,000 to develop a better silicone lubrication system for pre-filled syringes, reducing silicone contamination during medicine delivery.
▪ Xintek of Durham received $50,000 for its high-resolution three-dimensional dental X-ray imaging system.
▪ Zen-Bio of Durham received $50,000 to use adult “brown fat” – tissue within that burns calories – to manipulate metabolism to fight obesity and related diseases.
▪ Roundtable Analytics of Durham received $50,000 to develop decision-support software that improves emergency department performance.
