MIX 101.5 morning hosts Gene and Julie are off the air
Raleigh radio station MIX 101.5 has cut ties with popular morning show hosts Gene and Julie Gates.
The Capitol Broadcasting station, also known as WRAL-FM, announced that Monday’s broadcast of “The Gene and Julie Show” was its last.
“We will announce our new morning show in the coming days,” the station’s announcement stated. “During the interim, MIX listeners will continue to hear the music, WRAL-TV news and weather, and traffic from Patrick McMahon they depend on.”
No reason was given for the move, and station manager Katie Phillips couldn’t immediately be reached for additional comment.
Married co-hosts Gene and Julie Gates began broadcasting on MIX in July 2014. Last year, they won the National Association of Broadcasters’ Marconi Radio Award for “Large Market Personality of the Year.”
“We lost our job at WRAL today, so now we focus on the future and new beginnings,” noted a posting on the show’s Facebook page. “We LOVE radio and are committed to staying in the radio/audio delivery business.”
Gene and Julie Gates, who met in 1995, previously hosted a morning show for eight years on station KVIL in Dallas. They also have worked at stations in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Atlanta.
