Police yet to ID body found in Clayton
It may be a few more days before police can identify a man’s body found in Clayton on Thursday.
A medical examiner has requested the medical records of the person who police think was found in a creek near the Amelia Village Apartments off Amelia Church Road, said Clayton Police spokeswoman Stacy Beard.
The medical examiner likely won’t be able to compare the medical records to the body until next week, Beard said. A preliminary autopsy performed Friday couldn’t determine how the man died, she said.
Teenagers and an adult found the badly decomposed body shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday while on the way to go fishing at a pond near the apartment complex. Detectives removed the body around 7 p.m. and swept the creek for evidence.
Johnston County sheriff’s deputies are also investigating the body. Detectives think it could be that of a person reported missing on May 7, said spokeswoman Tammy Amaon.
