Wake County changes nine polling sites for Nov. 8 elections
The Wake County Board of Elections unanimously approved changes Thursday to nine polling sites that will be used on Election Day on Nov. 8.
The board moved six polling places to new locations after the current sites raised issues, including renovations. The board also voted to return three polling places to where they had been before this spring’s primary elections.
The polling places that are moving are:
▪ 01-21 moves from Raleigh Fire Station #2 to Carolina Pines Community Center, 2305 Lake Wheeler Road in Raleigh;
▪ 01-25 moves from Washington Elementary School to Walnut Terrace Community Center, 1256 McCauley St. in Raleigh;
▪ 01-30 moves from Brooks Elementary School to St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 4801 Six Forks Road in Raleigh;
▪ 01-38 moves from Raleigh Fire Station #11 to Brentwood Elementary School, 3426 Ingram Dr. in Raleigh;
▪ 04-04 moves from Kirk of Kildaire Presbyterian Church to Briarcliff Elementary School, 1220 Pond St. in Cary;
▪ 07-01 moves from Raleigh Fire Station #17 to St. Giles Presbyterian Church, 5101 Oak Park Road in Raleigh.
The polling places returning to their previous locations are:
▪ 13-11 moves from Abbott Creek Community Center back to the Greenway Club at Falls River, 1300 Falls River Ave. in Raleigh;
▪ 16-06 moves from Vandora Springs Elementary School back to Southeast Regional Library, 908 Seventh Ave. in Garner;
▪ 19-11 moves from Wake Forest Renaissance Centre for the Arts back to Wake Forest Community House, 133 W Owen Ave. in Wake Forest.
The Election Day ballot will include a long list of items, such as president, Congress, governor, General Assembly, judicial races, county races and a referendum to raise the sales tax rate a half-cent to help pay for the Wake Transit Plan.
With more than 50 Wake County schools serving as polling places, schools will open on a two-hour delay on Election Day. Wake election officials expressed support Thursday for the two-hour delay and said they hope it will continue for future elections.
