'Medical emergency' leaves 1 dead in Fuquay-Varina crash

A man was killed Thursday evening when he had a “medical emergency” and his minivan ran off the road west of Fuquay-Varina, officials said.

The man, who was in his fifties, crashed near the intersection of N.C. 55 and Old Honeycutt Road, town spokeswoman Susan Weis said. The crash occurred at about 5:48 p.m.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, she said. There were no passengers in the van at the time of the crash.

The man’s name, age and cause of death has not yet been released.
