Man charged with Texas assault, resisting Raleigh police at crime scene

A Wilson man was being held under $1 million bail Sunday in the Wake County Jail after being arrested on a Texas fugitive warrant and other charges over the weekend.

Ricky Scott Steward, 26, of 2712 Forest Hills Road SW, Apt. 5F, in Wilson, was charged Saturday with a sexual assault in Fort Worth. Texas police charged Steward with forcing a female friend to have sex after driving her home because she had too much to drink, the warrant states.

Raleigh police found the fugitive warrant for Steward while arresting him on misdemeanor charges of resisting a public officer and driving with a revoked license, a report states. Police questioning Steward at the scene of a stabbing arrested him after he gave them multiple fake names and birthdates, they said, and refused to exit his car, delaying the investigation.

The warrant charging Steward with the driving offense was issued in June, the report shows. He is scheduled to appear Monday in Wake County District Court for a hearing on his extradition to Texas to face the assault charge.
