Police charge man with rape of 14-year-old in Raleigh

A 23-year-old man was charged Saturday with the rape of a 14-year-old girl in early 2015.

Martize Tevin Smith, 23, who listed his address as 2406 Dallas Ave. in High Point, was accused of statutory rape and participating in the prostitution of a minor.

Arrest warrants obtained by Raleigh police last month, stated that Smith was with the girl between Jan. 1 and Feb. 28, 2015.

Smith is listed as playing the offensive line for the St. Augustine’s University football team in 2014, and he states on his Facebook page that he graduated from St. Aug’s with a degree in biology in 2015.

A magistrate set Smith’s bail at $1.5 million, and he was set to make his first appearance before a judge on Monday.
