Former Hoke County boys’ hoops coach arrested in Wake on indecent-liberties charges

Wake County sheriff's deputies Thursday arrested a man accused of taking indecent liberties with a minor and sexual battery when he coached basketball at East Hoke Middle School in Raeford.

Jervon Edward Robinson, 35, of Parkton, in Robeson County, is charged in arrest warrants from the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office with one felony count of indecent liberties with a child, two felony counts of indecent liberties with a student and one misdemeanor count of sexual battery.

The arrest warrants say the incidents happened on Dec. 20, 2013, and Jan. 15, 2014. That was during a six-month period when the Hoke County Schools said Robertson worked as a teacher’s assistant and boys’ basketball coach at the middle school.

A Hoke sheriff’s investigator swore out arrest warrants on Jan. 12 this year.

The sexual battery counts alleges that what Robinson did was “touch and rub the legs of butt, with another person, juvenile, by force and against the will of the other person.”

A Wake deputy stopped Robinson at Golden Grain and Benson roads, near Garner, a little after 4 p.m. Thursday, arrest records showed.

A sheriff’s office spokesman said Robinson was the subject of a routine traffic stop before a computer check revealed the warrants from Hoke County.

A magistrate set Robinson’s bond at $750,000. He was held overnight for a first court appearance Friday.
