Former Apex mayor named NCDOT deputy secretary
Former Apex mayor Keith Weatherly was promoted to deputy secretary of transit at the N.C. Department of Transportation on Monday.
Weatherly has been serving as deputy secretary of legislative affairs since he resigned as mayor to join DOT in January 2014.
“Keith’s previous experience at NCDOT and as a former mayor will be instrumental as we continue to support an enhanced multimodal transportation system including new, innovative transit systems needed to expand opportunities, grow jobs and support the increased demand of our rapidly growing population,” DOT secretary Nick Tennyson said in a news release.
Weatherly will replace Jeff Mann, who left DOT earlier this year to become general manager of GoTriangle, the regional transit agency formerly known as Triangle Transit. Weatherly has been doing Mann’s old job on an interim basis.
