Fire breaks out on North Carolina hospital parking deck, destroying cars, officials say
Several cars were damaged by a fire in a North Carolina hospital parking deck, media outlets report.
The fire broke out about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday on the third floor of the parking deck at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, fire officials told WFMY.
A car’s engine caught fire and the blaze spread, engulfing and destroying two cars and damaging five others, Greensboro Fire Department Deputy Chief Dwayne Church told WXII.
Nobody was hurt and the fire didn’t cause any serious structural damage to the deck, WFMY reported.
The fire seemed to be accidental and stemmed from a mechanical issue, investigators told the Greensboro News & Record.
It was contained soon after fire officials got there, the News & Record reported.
It was expected to reopen Wednesday afternoon, officials told WFMY.
None of the smoke from the fire got into the hospital or nearby buildings, WFMY reported.
Megan Plummer told WXII she saw the fire.
“You could just hear popping noises and the firefighters running up the stairs,” she said.
