Man critically hurt when car rear-ends moped on US 70 in Wake
A Raleigh man riding a moped on U.S. 70 Business near Garner was critically injured Monday morning when a car hit his machine from behind, the State Highway Patrol reported.
Timothy Michael Powell, 38, of 5500 Bradford Pear Court was riding the moped east at about 5:20 a.m. when an Infinity driven by Antonio Moore Jr., 22, 2701 Mortise Court in Durham came up behind it and hit it, Lt. Jeff Gordon said.
The moped and the car both went off the right side of the road and hit trees, Gordon said.
Powell was taken to WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, troopers said. Moore was unhurt.
Gordon said troopers needed to investigate further to determine if they would file any charges against Moore.
The eastbound side of U.S. 70 Business was closed for about 90 minutes after the crash, Gordon said.
