Triangle ties record for consecutive days of rain, at 12

Light rain fell at Raleigh-Durham International Airport late Monday afternoon, meaning the Triangle has tied a 128-year-old record for 12 consecutive days of rain.

As of 6 p.m. Monday, about 7.75 inches of rain had fallen at RDU since the first drops came down just before 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24. During that gloomy stretch, three daily rainfall records were set as well, said Kathleen Carroll, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Raleigh.

Not since August 1887 has the Triangle seen 12 straight days of rain.

By daybreak Tuesday, the rain should be gone, with the return of sunshine by the afternoon. The weather service forecast doesn’t show any rain for the foreseeable future.
