Temperature touches record low on fall’s first freezing morning
Temperatures turned downright cold in the Triangle overnight Sunday, and the National Weather Service at Raleigh-Durham International Airport reported 32 degrees at 7 a.m. Monday, tying the record low for the date.
The same reading was on thermometers at Horace Williams Airport in Chapel Hill and Johnston County Airport in Smithfield.
Patchy frost was expected to be gone by mid-morning, forecasters said, and the predicted high for Monday was in the high 50s.
Overnight Monday was expected to be a bit warmer, with a low of 35 degrees, A warming trend was on tap for the rest of the week, with highs of 69 degrees on Tuesday, 73 degrees on Wednesday and 75 degrees on Thursday.
The overnight lows were predicted to creep up as well, going down only to 51 degrees overnight Thursday.
The RDU record low for Oct. 19 was set in 1948.
