I appreciated the Nov. 28 news article “Environmental groups brace to fight Trump.” Too little attention has been paid to the dire consequences of climate change.
Forward movement becomes more difficult with the election of Donald Trump, who declared the clear and present danger of climate change “a hoax.” Myron Ebell, another denier, as point person on the transition team adds to my fear.
Thanks, N&O, for highlighting the work of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby and other groups who are bringing facts and science to bear on this serious problem.
Two concerns about the story: Natural gas is a problem in itself, as William Schlesinger recently pointed out in an Nov. 23 Point of view “Duke University plant would turn away from renewable energy.” Although it burns cleaner than coal it is composed largely of methane, which is a much more potent greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.
Unfortunately Duke Energy continues to expand use of natural gas rather than prioritizing renewable sources of energy such as wind and solar.
Please keep up the articles on climate change. Everyone needs to realize the seriousness and urgency of this problem. Denial of the science will not make it go away; it will only make it harder and more costly to deal with.
