Char Murphy: Clinton, Cuba and cruising

Regarding the March 21 news article “Obamas arrive for historic visit”: I am a 70-year-old teacher of conversational Spanish in the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute program at Duke and have looked forward for years to the possibility of traveling to Cuba.

My husband, four friends and I were all set to leave on a La Perla cruise around the island departing from Miami. However, we received a call from the cruise line informing us that the Cuban government took offense at what was said by Hillary Clinton during a debate criticizing the country for “disappearing” people and other things and decided to cancel all cruises around the island.

We are so disappointed as I am sure are all the other passengers on this and other ships. Perhaps Obama’s visit will improve the relationship between our countries, but it does not bode well for the future if Clinton is elected.
