Future UNC guard, Coby White, makes U18 USA National Team
Future UNC guard Coby White made the final roster for USA U18 Men’s National Team camp in Colorado Springs, Co.
Thirty-three players went through five training sessions beginning on May 30, and 18 finalists were announced Sunday morning. The roster was be trimmed down to 12 players Tuesday.The 2018 FIBA Americas U18 Championships are June 10-16 in St. Catharines, Canada.
White (6-5, 170) played high school basketball at Greenfield School in Wilson, and signed with the Tar Heels in November. The combo guard, who was also a McDonald’s All-American, was the top scorer in the state his senior year and broke the North Carolina prep scoring record. This postseason, White also played in the Jordan Brand Classic in Brooklyn, N.Y. and was recently named the MVP of the Josh Level Classic in Greensboro, scoring 41 points to pass the previous single-game scoring record.
The U18 National Team, led by Kansas head coach Bill Self, will compete in Group A and begin preliminary round play against Dominican Republic on June 10, followed by a game against Panama on June 11 and a contest against Puerto Rico on June 12.
Cole Anthony, the No. 1 player in the state of New York, and a Duke and UNC target, also made the final roster. Anthony is the top guard in the class of 2019. Armando Bacot (6-10, 240), also a Duke and UNC target out of Richmond, Va. made the final roster of 12 as well.
