West Iredell girls soccer senior poised to join elite goal-scoring company

West Iredell High School's Kelsey Brown is approaching a remarkable scoring milestone. The senior soccer captain might reach it Tuesday.

Brown is three goals shy of 100 for her career. The next opportunity to make that number a reality is Tuesday, when the Warriors (7-7, 3-5) host Maiden (1-11, 0-9).

A hat trick against Maiden isn't out of the realm of possibilities. In the teams' first Western Foothills Athletic Conference meeting March 3, Brown did one better, pocketing four goals and assisting another to lead the Warriors to a 7-0 victory.

On Thursday, Brown rang up six goals in a nonconference romp past Statesville to raise her career total to 97.

The Warriors have nine games left in the regular season, beginning with Maiden.

If Brown gets to 100 goals, she would be the second in the history of the West Iredell girls soccer program to do so. Former Warriors star Helen Summerell, who went on to play at Catawba College, holds the school record with 152 goals during her four years (2016-19).

Summerell is Iredell's all-time leading public school goal scorer.
