Giants Find Suitor for Kayvon Thibodeaux: Report

During the New York Giants news conference on Thursday night, head coach John Harbaugh suggested the team wasn’t planning on trading defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux after taking pass-rusher Arvell Reese with the No. 5 pick.

“No, no, we keep all the good players as much as we can,” Harbaugh said, turning to general manager Joe Schoen. “Right? We love Kayvon.”

“Yup,” Schoen said in agreement.

Per NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Giants have been active in trade conversations regarding Thibodeaux. The New Orleans Saints are a potential suitor, and a trade could happen during Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft.

“Sources: The Giants have engaged in trade conversations involving DE Kayvon Thibodeaux, and the Saints are among the teams showing strong interest,” Schultz posted on X. “If a deal happens, it could be as soon as tonight. Giants have been open to listening.”

Schultz’s report comes a day after ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the Giants had no plans to trade the defensive end.

“Despite drafting Arvell Reese, the Giants do not intend to trade DE Kayvon Thibodeaux, per source,” Schefter posted on X.

It would make sense for the Giants to trade Thibodeaux this offseason after landing Reese with the No. 5 pick. Instead of using Reese as an off-the-ball linebacker or out of position, New York could insert him in the rotation at edge if Thibodeaux were traded.

The Giants clearly chose Reese over defenders like Sonny Styles and Caleb Downs because of his skills at rushing the passer.

A trade on Friday night would allow New York to add draft capital to take players at other positions of need for the roster in Harbaugh’s first season as the head coach.

The Saints took wide receiver Jordyn Tyson with the No. 8 pick on Thursday night. Thibodeaux would boost New Orleans' defense in the second year of head coach Kellen Moore.
