Caitlin Clark Makes WNBA History Against Dallas Wings

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever opened the 2026 WNBA season on Saturday afternoon, squaring off against Paige Bueckers and the Dallas Wings at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Clark has now entered her third season in the WNBA, looking to stay healthy throughout after missing most of last year with numerous injuries.

Despite only playing in 13 games during the 2025 WNBA season, Clark still secured a second All-Star nod. The former Iowa Hawkeyes star finished the year averaging 16.5 points on 36.7% shooting, 5.0 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game. And Clark picked up right where she left off in the 2026 season opener, etching her name into WNBA history.

Going into the Fever vs. Wings matchup, Clark had tallied 983 total points during her two-year career with Indiana. And with under two seconds remaining in the third quarter, Clark hit a 4-foot shot to tie the game up at 80 apiece, marking her 18th point of the game and the 1,001st point of her young WNBA career.

In doing so, Clark is now tied as the sixth-fastest player in league history to record 1,000 career points, doing so in just 54 games. She joins New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart (2017) and Fever legend Tamika Catchings (2003). Only five players have been able to achieve 1,000 points faster than Clark, and that includes:

  1. Cynthia Cooper-Dyke - Houston Comets - 45 games
  2. Seimone Augustus - Minnesota Lynx - 46 games
  3. Arike Ogunbowale - Dallas Wings - 51 games
  4. Elena Delle Donne - Chicago Sky - 52 games
  5. A'ja Wilson - Las Vegas Aces - 53 games

Not only that, but Clark became the fastest player in WNBA history to record 1,000 career points, 200 rebounds and 450 assists, reaching the milestone in 54 games. She entered Saturday's game with 292 rebounds and 452 assists. The previous fastest player to hit those marks was Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu, who needed 76 games.

Up next for Clark and the Fever, a battle with Cameron Brink and the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. ET.
