Yankees' Aaron Boone Announce Cam Schlittler News Before Brewers Game

The New York Yankees are entering the final game of their series against the Milwaukee Brewers with one of the best records in the American League at 26-14.

The Yankees look like a contender again after a disappointing AL Division Series loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. A key to their success this season has been starting pitcher Cam Schlittler, who has been outstanding for New York.

In nine starts, the 25-year-old has posted a 1.35 ERA, 0.806 WHIP, and 59 strikeouts in 53.1 innings pitched. He has relied on an overpowering fastball, poise in high-leverage moments, and dominant pitch metrics.

Now a key piece of the rotation, he was involved in a scary moment during Saturday's game against the Brewers when he was struck in the left calf by a 108.5 mph comebacker. He stayed in the game and delivered six shutout innings, suggesting little immediate concern.

According to MLB.com's Casey Drottar, Yankees manager Aaron Boone addressed the situation after Schlittler was seen walking with a limp. Boone did not appear overly concerned about it affecting his next start, though he acknowledged uncertainty about how he will feel going forward. Which is troubly for the Yankees as they don't know if he can make his next start.

This development is a concern for the club, as he is enjoying a breakout season while also demonstrating resilience by pitching through the comebacker. A healthy Schlittler performing at this level would be a major asset for the Yankees' future.

Drafted by New York in 2022 and making his debut in 2025, Schlittler has shown promise since entering the league. He signed a one-year, $801,425 contract with the Yankees this season, further solidifying his role as a key contributor moving forward.
