One Bandys track standout signs for NCAA Division I school, another signs with Lenoir-Rhyne

Bandys High School track and field standout Raelle Brown signed her National Letter of Intent to run for Western Carolina University last week.

WCU competes at the NCAA Division I level in the Southern Conference. Brown has been a standout hurdler and sprinter for the Trojans. She took fourth in the 2A state championships in the 100-meter hurdles last year and third in the 300-meter hurdles.

This year, Brown is the favorite to win the 300 and is the No. 5 seed in the 100. She also took fourth in the 100-meter dash at the 4A West Regional meet last weekend.

Bandys senior Sean Reed has signed his National Letter of Intent to run for Lenoir-Rhyne next year. Reed is one of the top distance runners in the county. He won the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter races at the Catawba County Track and Field Championships on April 22. He also won the county cross country meet last fall.
