Corey Seager Update Emerges After Removal From Rangers Lineup
The Texas Rangers are searching for offensive consistency throughout the start of the 2026 MLB season. Entering Friday at 21-22, the Rangers are still in range of the top spot in the American League West division, currently led by the 22-21 Athletics.
One of the Rangers' biggest storylines throughout the early part of the season has been the struggles of 32-year-old star shortstop Corey Seager. The five-time All-Star and two-time World Series MVP has endured one of the most difficult offensive stretches of his 12-year career to begin the season, as the Rangers continue looking for more production from their lineup.
Seager is facing career lows in several major categories, hitting just .179 with an OPS of .638 in 42 games. The club released their starting lineup for Friday's game against the Houston Astros, notably missing Corey Seager. Rangers reporter at DLLS Sports, Jeff Wilson, clarified that Seager's absence was merely the result of a scheduled off day rather than an injury-related issue.
"Off day for Corey Seager," Wilson shared on X.

While Seager will likely be back in the lineup soon, the veteran shortstop will now get back-to-back rest days, as the team hopes he can regroup both mentally and physically as he attempts to break out of his early-season slump.
Texas will look to other members of the lineup to step up as they hope to generate momentum in the first game of the series against the Astros on Friday night. Recently, the Rangers have received strong contributions from third baseman Josh Jung and outfielder Brandon Nimmo. However, the ceiling for this Rangers team remains closely tied to Seager rediscovering his All-Star form at the plate.
