Loss in NCAA quarterfinals ends another 12-win season for Lenoir-Rhyne lacrosse
Anderson lacrosse goalkeeper Adin Laughlin had a school-record 25 saves against LR as the Trojans eliminated Lenoir-Rhyne in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA tournament with a 9-7 win.
Lenoir-Rhyne dominated nearly every category against Anderson on Wednesday, leading the Trojans in shots (53-25), shots-on-goal (32-13), faceoffs (13-7), grounds balls (37-21), and turnovers (15-9). But Laughlin's performance in goal for Anderson proved decisive.
With the win, Anderson now advances to Sunday's national semifinal at Tampa.
Morgan Madish led the Bears with three goals while Donovan Powell finished with two. Nate Serrano and Sloan Steward each scored a goal for the Bears and Owen Peters made four saves. The teams were a combined 0-8 on extra-man opportunities. Anderson's final goal was an empty-net goal that was scored when Lenoir-Rhyne was attempting to force a late turnover.
The Bears finish the season 12-5 (7-2 in South Atlantic Conference play). It's the sixth consecutive season with at least 12 wins for the Bears.
Powell's 88 points this season place him second in program history. Powell ranks fifth all-time in career goals and seventh in points. Matthew Mancini finishes his career with 773 faceoff victories, just three short of the program record. The team set a new faceoff win percentage school record at .650.
