Justin Thomas Has One Person to Credit for PGA Championship Performance
Justin Thomas finished the PGA Championship strongly, something that has been rare for the PGA Tour pro. After months of battling inconsistency and frustration, Thomas appears to have found his form again, and he knows exactly who deserves the credit for it.
The former world No. 1 ended the second major of the year with an exceptional 5-under 65, pushing himself into fourth position alongside Ludvig Aberg and Matthias Schmid. While the scorecard showed birdies and momentum, Thomas later revealed that the turnaround began long before he stepped onto Aronimink Golf Club on Sunday morning.
"I vented and kind of got everything off my chest to my wife Jill last night", said the golfer in the press conference. Thomas revealed his frustration after his 2-over-72 third round. He practiced longer than usual to fix his game. And as far as his emotions were concerned, his wife helped him overcome them.
Justin Thomas credits his wife for helping him get mentally prepared for his 65 on Sunday at the PGA.

"Credit to her, she gave great advice. She was like, well, use that tomorrow. She's seen me play (expletive) off", said Thomas. The couple have been together since 2016 and married in 2022. The Kentucky lovebirds are commonly seen together on the course, as Jillian Wisniewski has always been supportive from the sidelines.
Thomas later added how he has used the same mindset during his Ryder Cup outings. The 33-year-old continued, "So I've got to give her a lot of credit for that because I tried to use that out of my finish and round today to play today and shoot as low as I could."
For JT, a strong finish carried extra meaning because of the difficult stretch he has endured over the last few years. Despite already winning two PGA Championships, Thomas has struggled to consistently contend since winning his last major in 2022. Since then, he has missed seven cuts in 16 major appearances.
Thomas' last professional win came last year at the RBC Heritage, which marked his first victory since the 2022 PGA Championship. Now, finishing the major with a top-five finish feels like another sign that Thomas may finally be rediscovering his form. He opened the tournament with consecutive rounds of 69 before posting a bogey-filled round on Saturday.
Nonetheless, the 33-year-old shot a 65 in the final round, the same score as winner Aaron Rai. As he continues to rediscover his form, Thomas will likely continue leaning on the support of his better half, Jillian.
