Ronda Rousey-Gina Carano Card Delivers Record-Breaking Ratings for Netflix
Though the main event of Saturday's MVP MMA: Rousey vs. Carano card ended in just 17 seconds - a submission win for Rousey - the ratings for the event still broke records.
According to Netflix, the card, which was put on by Jake Paul‘s Most Valuable Promotions, peaked at 17 million viewers around the world, and the 11.6 million viewers who turned in during the main event were the most ever for any MMA main event fight in the United States.
"Breaking: Ronda Rousey x Gina Carano peaked at 17 million global viewers, per Netflix," MMA insider Ariel Helwani posted on X. "The final three fights averaged 12.4 million viewers. Domestically, the main card averaged 9.3 million viewers and peaked at 11.6 million during the main event, making it the most-watched MMA event ever in the U.S."
It's tough to contextualize where the Rousey-Carano card stacks up to the UFC given the company's ever-changing streaming situations (the promotion moved away from the pay-per-view model with its new streaming deal with Paramount+).
The UFC 229 card between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov holds the record for most pay-per-view buys with 2.4 million.
The U.S. network television viewership record is 8.8 million views during the UFC on Fox 1 card that featured Junior dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez. The UFC 324 card between Justin Gaethje and Paddy Pimblett holds the U.S. streaming record with 4.96 million viewers.
After weeks of buildup and hype surrounding the main event, Rousey took Carano down in seconds and hit her with a few punches from mount before transitioning into the fight-ending armbar.
After the bout, both Rousey and Carano hinted their MMA careers were likely done. Rousey admitted she wanted to have more babies with husband Travis Browne, while Carano didn't seem interested in keeping her MMA career going.
The fight marked Rousey's first bout in a decade and Carano's first fight in 17 years. Rousey pocketed $2.2 million, while Carano earned a more modest $1.05 million for the fight.
Mike Perry was paid $400,000 for his second-round TKO win over Nate Diaz, who made $500,000, in the co-main event. Francis Ngannou pocketed $1.5 million for his first-round KO win over fellow heavyweight Philipe Lins, who made $100,000.
