Wake Forest men fail to advance to NCAA Golf Championship
Wake Forest's golf team came up short in regional play at Bermuda Run Country Club on Wednesday.
The Demon Deacons were playing host to the 14-team regional but came in eighth place to miss advancing to the NCAA Championship. Only the top five schools advanced to the championship.
Virginia and Pepperdine shared the team title as each shot 36 under par over 54 holes. Ole Miss was third at 31 under, followed by Southern Cal (27 under) and Mississippi State (26 under)
The Demon Deacons shot 12 under for 54 holes to finish 14 shots behind fifth-place Mississippi State.
Nicholas Prieto was the highest finisher for Wake Forest and tied for 10th at 7 under for 54 holes.
Ben James of Virginia, who shot 19 under shooting 66-63-65, won the regional by three shots over Cameron Tankersley of Ole Miss.
Lorenzo Rodriguez finished tied for 25th while Maddux Cook tied for 33rd. Jake Melin tied for 37th for the Demon Deacons and Tom Haberer tied for 42nd.
