LeBron James, Cavaliers Trade Proposal Has NBA Fans Torn

LeBron James has not yet announced his plans for the 2026-27 NBA season, and yet, there are rumblings about him potentially returning to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

After the Los Angeles Lakers were eliminated from the NBA playoffs, ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported that James isn't exactly eager to take a pay cut in free agency. To be fair, the Hall of Famer just averaged 23.2 points, 7.3 assists and 6.7 rebounds per game this postseason.

In the event the Lakers fail to retain James this offseason, the Cavaliers could emerge as a suitor for him. However, they'll need to get creative in order to acquire the Akron native's hefty price tag.

One potential way the Cavaliers could make room for James is by sending Jarrett Allen to the Lakers in a sign-and-trade. Judging by the reactions to that idea, NBA fans aren't sure if it's a win-win type of deal.

"If that report is true, this is a complete no brainer for the Cavs," one person said. "LeBron is still a better player than Jarrett Allen right now. Heck, even at 50 years old, I can promise you one thing: you'll never see LeBron drop 6 points and 3 rebounds in meaningful games."

"That's fine. Allen is a good guy, not championship material," a fan declared.

"This actually makes a lot of sense for both sides I think. Lakers get a rim protector and finisher to put next to Luka, Lebron gets to retire a Cav, and the Cavs get a short term ceiling raiser to give this roster one last hurrah," another fan argued.

"Signing James Harden to a multi-year deal and then signing LeBron James to anything but the vet minimum while also trading your 28 year old defensive anchor is stupid," a third fan wrote.

"Bad trade for the Cavs," a Cleveland fan said. "We got Harden and LeBron standing around on defense."

Expect the Cavs to be aggressive this offseason.

Even if the Cavaliers pass on a reunion with James, expect them to make a major move in the coming months.

Windhorst reported that Cleveland could be a landing spot for Giannis Antetokounmpo, who has reportedly told the Milwaukee Bucks that he's ready to move on.

"I don't think it will be long before you start to hear Cavs attached to Giannis," Windhorst said. "If they put Evan Mobley on the table, as hard as that would be, Evan Mobley is in his mid-20s. When they drafted Evan Mobley, they drafted him to be another Giannis. What if they could turn him into Giannis with Harden and Donovan Mitchell on the roster? They have not crossed that bridge yet, but that is something that they may have to consider, especially as we lead up to the draft and the Bucks get serious about listening to offers for Giannis."

It'll be interesting to see how the Cavaliers retool their roster after getting swept in the Eastern Conference Finals.
