Caitlin Clark Struggles Again In Fever's Blowout Loss

Not every night can be historic, even when you’re Caitlin Clark.

The Indiana Fever All-Star guard reached 500 career assists faster than any player in WNBA history on Thursday. The night was soured by Clark finishing with a season-low 16 points on 25% shooting from the field and the Fever losing to the Golden State Valkyries, 90-88.

Clark and the Fever put up another stinker against the Portland Fire on Saturday night.

The Fire held a 87-62 lead entering the fourth quarter, and Clark’s 3-point heroics weren’t an option because she had five personal fouls entering the fourth quarter. All told, the Fire won 100-84 before a sellout crowd in Portland. Clark finished with six points on just 1-for-7 shooting from the field, including 0-for-2 from 3, and six assists.

Clark’s forgettable night in Portland marked her second-lowest shooting percentage from the floor (14.3%) and points scored in a game behind her three points on 10% shooting from the field in the Fever’s 104-68 loss to the New York Liberty in the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup on June 2, 2024.

The Fever fall to 4-4 on the season with the loss, and it’s not about to get any easier.

Indiana will host the Atlanta Dream (5-2) - Clark’s first time facing Angel Reese since her move from Chicago to Atlanta - on Thursday. Then, they’ll travel to New York to face the Liberty (5-4) on Saturday and Washington D.C. to play the Mystics (3-4) on Monday, June 8. All three games will be part of the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup, which the Fever won last year.
