Blue Jays Announce Daulton Varsho News After 3 Missed Games
Injuries have been a constant challenge for the Toronto Blue Jays throughout the 2026 season. Alejandro Kirk has missed significant time, Addison Barger remains sidelined, and several key contributors have spent stretches on the injured list as Toronto has tried to stay competitive in the AL East. Last weekend, another concern emerged when center fielder Daulton Varsho joined the growing injury list.
Varsho exited Friday's game against the Baltimore Orioles with left wrist discomfort after appearing to aggravate the injury during his first at-bat. He was seen shaking out his left hand following a pair of swings before eventually leaving the game in the fourth inning. X-rays later came back negative, but the Blue Jays held him out of the lineup over the weekend as they continued evaluating the injury.
The 29-year-old also missed Monday's 5-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, marking his third consecutive game out of the starting lineup. Myles Straw started in center field while Toronto improved to 32-34 on the season.
However, there was encouraging news ahead of Tuesday's game. According to manager John Schneider, Varsho is "feeling better," and an MRI revealed no structural damage, although the club awaits feedback from a hand specialist. Schneider added that the organization remains hopeful the outfielder can avoid an injured list stint (via Keegan Matheson of MLB.com).
Dalton Varsho got an MRI on his wrist this morning. The results were "good" and the #BlueJays are also getting some feedback from a hand specialist.

They can't keep playing shorthanded, so it's close to decision time on whether he avoids the IL.
The wrist issue is not Varsho's first health concern this season. Earlier in the year, he missed time with left knee discomfort, though the injury ultimately proved minor and did not require an MRI.
Despite the interruptions, Varsho has appeared in 63 games this season, hitting .256 with five home runs, 17 RBIs, four stolen bases and a .331 on-base percentage while continuing to provide Gold Glove-caliber defense in center field.
Toronto will continue monitoring his progress on a day-to-day basis.
