Knicks Fans Ruthlessly Boo Victor Wembanyama Before Game 5 in San Antonio

New Yorkers have been taunting San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama for the entirety of the 2026 NBA Finals, including someone throwing eggs at the 7-foot-4 phenom after the New York Knicks pulled off a historic 29-point comeback to win Game 4 and take a 3-1 series lead at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday.

Wembanyama, better known as Wemby, was asked about it on Friday and brushed it off, saying, “Obviously, it’s not good at all, but it doesn’t bother me.” The recently anointed unanimous NBA Defensive Player of the Year also said he wasn’t concerned about Knicks fans traveling to San Antonio’s Frost Bank Center for Game 5.

As expected, Knicks fans traveled in bulk to San Antonio on Saturday, just in case the Knicks win Game 5 and capture the franchise’s first championship since 1973.

That Knicks contingent made Wemby feel their presence before the game even started, as ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne posted video of them loudly booing him during his pregame warmup.

During his Friday media availability, Wemby shared how he planned to handle the immense pressure ahead of a must-win Game 5.

“I feel like the same routine as usual, but even more pushed,” he said. “We are this point in the season where, yeah, I mean, we can take some time on every other thing to put into performance. So, we’re at this point where we can really empty the tank.”

It will take everything the Spurs have to overcome a 3-1 series deficit, and history would suggest that that still may not be enough. The only instance in history of a team winning the NBA Finals after going down 3-1 happened when the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers shocked the Stephen Curry-led Golden State Warriors in 2016.
