Victor Wembanyama Accused Of 'Classless' Reaction To NBA Finals Loss
Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs fell in five on Saturday night.
San Antonio blew a double-digit lead to New York, as the Knicks topped the Spurs, 4-1, in the 2026 NBA Finals. Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, OG Anunoboy, Karl-Anthony Towns and the rest of the Knicks are NBA champions. Wembanyama and the Spurs, meanwhile, will have to wait another year - at least - before taking home an NBA championship.
It was a frustrating series for the Spurs, who had several big leads throughout the series, but they were unable to hold onto them. Saturday night's Game 5 was no different. The Spurs were leading by 10-plus points for much of the second half, before getting cold late and allowing the Knicks to go on a huge run.
New York topped San Antonio, 94-90, to win the franchise's first championship since 1973.
Following the loss, Victor Wembanyama immediately left the floor, not shaking hands with any members of the New York Knicks franchise - at least none were visible on ABC's broadcast.
NBA fans are calling Wembanyama out, accusing him of a "classless" reaction to the NBA Finals loss.
Fans call out Wemby for reaction to NBA Finals loss
"Wow they didn't shake their hands… that's not good," Draymond Green said on Sunday morning.
NBA fans agreed.
"After every game we gave spurs respect. Spoke of them being a good team that is well coached. Never once did they compliment us. Wemby needs to go study more with the monks. Cause he didn't get lesson in humility," one fan wrote.
"Classless," one fan added.
"Not only is he a dirty player, he's got no class. And to think the NBA wants to make him one of the faces for their league," one fan added.
"For some reason, Wembanyama has a problem with Jalen. And, of course, his dudes follow right behind his lead. He threw Jalen 61 point ball in the stands and basically said he didn't care. Wouldn't shake hands after they loss in the cup finals, so I'm not surprised he didn't here," one fan added.
What do you make of Wemby's postgame behavior?
