Duke’s Jeff Capel will not be going to Arizona State
Jeff Capel has removed his name from consideration for the head coaching vacancy at Arizona State, a source confirmed to the News & Observer. CBS Sports’s Gary Parrish first reported the news.
There was mutual interest initially between the two parties, and Capel interviewed with Arizona State officials. But after Duke’s national championship win over Wisconsin Monday night, Capel withdrew his name from consideration.
This is significant news for the Blue Devils—Capel was the main recruiter for Tyus Jones, Jahlil Okafor and Justise Winslow, the trio of freshmen that paced Duke to the national title. He was also the point man on the recruitment of Jabari Parker, the No. 2 pick in last year’s NBA draft, and Rodney Hood, another 2014 first rounder.
