NC State’s Cat Barber named All-ACC
N.C. State guard Cat Barber was voted first-team All-ACC by the media on Sunday. The junior point guard is the second Wolfpack player in three years to make the first team and third in the past four seasons.
Barber led the ACC in scoring (23.4 points per game) and led the Wolfpack in assists (4.3 per game). He finished third in the ACC player of the year voting behind Virginia senior Malcolm Brogdon.
Brogdon, UNC senior Brice Johnson, Duke sophomore Grayson Allen and Clemson junior Jaron Blossomgame also made the first team.
Barber scored 20 or more points in 12 of N.C. State’s 18 ACC games and had six 30-point games in conference play. He was the top scorer in conference play, 23.6 points per game, too.
Barber’s scoring average jumped by more than 11 points from his sophomore season but the Wolfpack dropped from 10-8 in ACC play to 5-13. Barber joins T.J. Warren (2014) and Richard Howell (2013) as first-team selections during Mark Gottfried’s tenure.
Brogdon also took ACC defensive player of the year honors and Duke’s Brandon Ingram was the freshman of the year. Miami’s Jim Larranaga was voted the coach of the year for the second time in four years.
Blossomgame was also named the league’s most improved player and UNC junior Isaiah Hicks was voted the league’s best sixth man.
