NC State’s offensive line to get blocking help

Graduation, injuries and a suspension have limited N.C. State’s offensive line during the spring. The Wolfpack will pick up some blocking help for the 2016 season in South Alabama center Joseph Scelfo.

As a graduate transfer, Scelfo can play right away for the Wolfpack when the season starts. A two-year starter for the Jaguars, Scelfo was a first-team all-conference selection in 2015.

Fox Sports was first to report about Scelfo’s decision to transfer to N.C. State.

Scelfo, 6-1 and 295 pounds, did not allow a sack in 12 starts last season, including a 63-13 loss to N.C. State on Sept. 26.

Scelfo comes from a football family. His father, Chris, was the longtime coach at Tulane in the 2000s and has been an assistant at Georgia, Marshall and with the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL.

Scelfo will be eligible to enroll at N.C. State for the first summer school session and begin to work out with the team then.

N.C. State lost three senior starters from last year’s offensive line, including center Quinton Schooley, a three-year starter. Junior guard Tony Adams missed the spring with a knee injury and sophomore tackle Will Richardson was suspended.

With no natural center on the roster, Scelfo will have a chance to contribute right away in his only season with the Wolfpack.
