NC State sets new record for football season ticket sales
N.C. State has already surpassed a school-record for season-ticket sales for the 2016 football season.
The school announced on Wednesday it has sold 36,342 season tickets for the upcoming home schedule, which includes dates with Notre Dame, Florida State and Miami.
It’s the first time N.C. State has sold more than 36,000 season tickets for Carter-Finley Stadium, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary as the Wolfpack’s home in 2016.
Carter-Finley’s official capacity is 57,600 and N.C. State averaged 56,988, also a school record, for six games last season. N.C. State is coming off a 7-6 finish in 2015.
The previous record for season ticket sales was 35,156 in 2007. Notre Dame’s first trip to Raleigh certainly helped boost the total. The only way to get tickets to the Notre Dame game is by purchasing season tickets.
The Fighting Irish and Wolfpack have met only once before, a 28-6 N.C. State win in the 2003 Gator Bowl. Notre Dame, an ACC member in all sports but football, plays an average of five ACC opponents per year.
This has the potential to be one of the toughest schedules N.C. State has ever played and is one of the most attractive home schedules. N.C. State hasn’t played three ranked opponents at home since 2004. Ohio State (No. 9), Miami (No. 4) and FSU (No. 11) all visited Raleigh that season.
