Observations
UNC and Texas play in the finale of a four-game, home-and-home series. The Longhorns have won the past two games – an 86-83 victory at UNC in December 2013, and an 85-67 victory in Austin in December 2012. … This is coach Shaka Smart’s first season at Texas, where he is attempting to implement the same system and philosophy that led to much success during his tenure at VCU. UNC has devoted a lot of time recently to preparing for Smart’s press and the “havoc” his teams attempt to create. The Tar Heels are coming off a dominant 98-65 victory Sunday against Davidson. The Tar Heels will be challenged on the inside by 6-foot-10 Texas center Cameron Ridley, who’s averaging 12.4 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
