UNC vs. South Carolina in Charlotte next season moved to a Thursday night

North Carolina and South Carolina will start the 2015 college football season with a game against each other, and that game has been moved to Thursday, Sept. 3, the Charlotte Sports Foundation announced today.

The game had been scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 5.

According to the release from the Charlotte Sports Foundation, the game will be on “primetime national television.” Which means, with100 percent certainty, that it will be on one of the ESPN networks. The time has yet to be announced.

UNC and South Carolina opened the season against each other on a Thursday night last year in Columbia, S.C., where the Gamecocks defeated the Tar Heels, 27-10. The teams met regularly decades ago when South Carolina was a member of the ACC, and they continued to play regularly through the 1970s and 80s.

After UNC's 21-17 victory in Chapel Hill in 1991, though, the teams didn't play again until 2007 – a 21-15 Gamecocks victory. The teams haven't played at a neutral site since 1955, when they met in Norfolk, Va.
