Big 8 all-conference boys and girls basketball, wrestling and swimming teams, 2016

The Big 8 Conference has released its all-conference lists for winter sports.

Southern Durham won the boys basketball title, led by player of the year J’Tori Christmas and coach Kendrick Hall.

The girls basketball awards were all about sharing. Northwood and Chapel Hill tied for the girls basketball championship. Chapel Hill’s Alliyah Chapman and Southern’s Marissa Mackins were co-players of the year and three coaches – Northwood’s Cameron Vernon, Chapel Hill’s Sherry Norris and Southern’s Teddy McKoy – won coach of the year.

Orange won the wrestling title while state champion Michael Queen was the wrestler of the year. Orange’s Bobby Shriner and Northwood’s Jason Amy were co-coaches of the year.

Chapel Hill won the boys and girls swimming championships. Chapel Hill’s Claire DeSelm was the girls swimmer of the year while Northwood’s Joshua Conger won the boys’ top honor.
