For the first time in school history, Carrboro ends the year No. 1 in The News & Observer girls soccer rankings. The Jaguars, second last year, are back-to-back N.C. High School Athletic Association 2A champions with a two-year mark of 42-1-3.

The Jaguars placed three players on the 16-person All-Metro team: Miah Araba, Elizabeth Cato and state title MVP Alexa Wojnovich. Carrboro was the only team to receive multiple All-Metro picks.

The Cinderella stories of the postseason: NCHSAA 4A runner-up Middle Creek and 4A East runner-up Athens Drive, finished 2-3. Each team landed one player apiece on the All-Metro team.

NCHSAA 1A runner-up Franklin Academy was 15th and N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 3A runner-up Cary Academy was No. 6.

Only five players are returning All-Metro players: Araba, Cary Academy’s Abby Staker, West Johnston’s Robin Pollard, Woods Charter’s Isabel Pearce and Fuquay-Varina’s Megan Greene.
