What to Watch on Saturday: Hallmark Christmas movie penned by a local author – plus ‘Rudolph’
The Christmas Cottage (8 p.m., Hallmark) – In this movie, based on the novel by Wake Forest romance writer Samantha Chase, a cynical interior designer decorates a honeymoon cottage for her best friend – and gets snowed in with the bride-to-be’s sexy brother, who also happens to be her old flame.
Christmas in Mississippi (8 p.m., Lifetime) – Holly returns to her hometown to help with a light show and must work with her high school sweetheart.
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (8 p.m., CBS) – It’s him. The reindeer with the shiny nose guides Santa’s sleigh through a bad storm on Christmas Eve in this beloved 1964 classic.
Christmas Encore (9 p.m., Hallmark Movies & Mysteries) – A struggling actress finds a renewed passion for her work when she’s cast in a modern, off-Broadway take on “A Christmas Carol.”
Frosty the Snowman (9 p.m., CBS) – The 1969 animated story of a snowman who came to life one day. Narrated by Jimmy Durante.
Runaway Christmas Bride (9 p.m., ION) – A runaway bride hides out at a winter resort, where she meets a charming ski patrol rescuer.
It’s a Wonderful Life (9 p.m., USA) – In this Frank Capra classic, a suicidal man ruined by a miser on Christmas Eve sees his life in a new light thanks to his guardian angel. It stars James Stewart, Donna Reed and Lionel Barrymore.
Frosty Returns (9:30 p.m., CBS) – A 1995 sequel to “Frosty the Snowman” involves a snow-removal spray that threatens magic. John Goodman voices Frosty and it’s narrated by Jonathan Winters.
Saturday Night Live (11:30 p.m., NBC) - James Franco hosts, with musical guest SZA.
